The Czech School of Atlanta, honoring Karel Velan teaches children of all ages and origins to speak, sing, read, write and think in Czech/Slovakian, as well as explore the culture, heritage and history of the Czech Republic/Slovakia. Children learn through music, recitation, art, and printed materials, as well as interactive and entertaining activities. The school offers many educational and cultural events associated with exploring Czech/Slovakian traditions, not only to our students and their families, but also to all interested public. The Czech School of Atlanta, honoring Karel Velan follows a curriculum based on the educational plan developed and used at Czech School Without Borders and its network. This initiative emphasizes early exposure to another language and culture and systematic continuation of learning to become truly bilingual.

The Czech School of Atlanta, honoring Karel Velan was founded in March 2013 and began serving students 18 months to 15 years of age on September 7, 2013. The Czech School of Atlanta, with the help of Mr. George A. Novák, Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic in Atlanta, created a collaborative working relationship with City of Sandy Springs, Tom Mahaffey of the Sandy Springs’ Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. David Knott of Fulton County Schools. To our three Czech classrooms, we are proud to announce we have added a Slovakian classroom on September 12, 2015. Classes are being held every Saturday from 10am–12pm during the regular Fulton County's calendar school year at Sandy Springs Charter Middle School.

It is our goal to raise a transplanted Czech/Slovakian-speaking generation, which will be able to read and write in Czech/Slovakian and also understand, respect and love their Czech/Slovakian heritage, culture and history.

Our dream is to develop in children a sense of love for the native land of their parents and grandparents.
